My shoot with Sachie Sanders

To those who may be unfamiliar with the name, sachie sanders is a member of viva hot babes, she appeared on the cover of playboy philippines’ july 2008 issue, she also has appeared on several issues of FHM Philippines.

Equipment: I brought two flashes, a canon 580ex and a nissin di622, since I wanted to do cross lighting. I only brought one receiver with me since I was hoping to trigger the nissin flash optically. Unfortunately the lighting setup didn’t quite work as the nissin flash wouldn’t fire. It was probably the batteries. I also brought a ring flash adaptor. I was planning to buy a 17-40mm f4L lens so i could get more dramatic angles, unfortunately I wasn’t able to buy one in time for the shoot. I had to rely on my 28-105mm lens and my 50mm prime lens which is why most of my shots were half body or portrait.

My camera: it looks menacing

The shoot was done in a certain tower in Makati. The staff of the place was probably paid very well by their employers as they seemed to be very enthusiastic about their jobs. So enthusiastic that they made their rounds more often than they were probably required to. They always kept a watchful eye on the model to make sure tha she was always comfortable. It was so nice of them.
Unfortunately for me, a lot of the pictures turned out to be unusable due to the high frequency of extra heads that appeared.

Anyway, here are the pics. (click on readmore below to see more photos) There are also more pics of the shoot on my multiply: http://jaywalker0415.multiply.com/photos/album/22/sachie_sanders

Metro comic con 2009 report

tags: cosplay, comic con, 2009, philippines, manila, final fantasy, bleach, action figures, pictures, photos

It’s been a while since I last updated and I know that my 100 bajillion readers are interested to know what I’ve been up to the past few months. I know this may come as a disappointment to some of you but I am not dead yet. I’m sorry. I merely contracted a debilitating case of internet addiction which rendered me incapable of doing anything that requires more than a minute of attention span.

On more interesting news, The first metro comic con was held at sm megatradehall on aug 8 and 9. I went there with the intention of geeking out and finding models/cosplayers to test my new lens on.

It’s my first time to attend a Philippine cosplay convention and I was expecting to see boatloads of fail but I must say that I was fairly impressed. The costumes were really well made and the cosplayers were fairly attractive in general.

I’ll try to write a more detailed report on the next entry but for now here are the pics: Click on the images to see them in high resolution (the entry is truncated. Click on readmore to see the rest of the photos) I'll post more pics on my multiply tomorrow click here for link

Oh, If you see yourself in any of these photos, do contact me so I can send you higher resolution pics.

Random Updates

It’s been a while. I can’t seem to finish anything lately. I wrote a lengthy and witty article on the US elections and its socio-political parallels to battlestar galactica. I made some compelling arguments on why i believe Mccain should win the election which could be summarized by the picture below

But I’m guessing the article would not help him win the election now so I’m putting it in the trash bin. I guess America just isn’t ready for a Cylon president yet. On a somewhat related note, after a long wait, the second half of Battlestar galactica season 4 finally starts this month. This is cause for celebration.

I did a video review of Underworld 3 rise of the lycans. I’ll probably post it tomorrow if I’m not too lazy but let me tell you in advance that if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll probably like the film.

===========+++=========

On a totally unrelated note, remember Myca? We did a photoshoot last year. She’s featured on the september 08 issue of slitzmag. She also wrote a few articles there. You can download a PDF copy of the entire issue on their site. It's free! No, they didn’t pay me to promote their mag but I’m hoping that they would.

Organizing a studio photoshoot alone can be a daunting experience so I’m taking a break from studio work until I acquire more connections.

Canon EOS 1000D

Technorati Tags: canon EOS 1000D, 450D, 400D, D40x, D40, comparisonNikon has been dominating the lower end of the DSLR market with their d40 and d40x for the past 2 years. Both cameras cost under 30k brand new. You can actually buy a brand new d40 for about 21k. Canon didn’t have anything that could compete at the price range. Canon’s cheapest cameras cost 40k and above.

Why canon took this long to release a camera at this price bracket, I don’t know. But they finally have and it shreds its competition to bits, at least in this canonite’s opinion. The canon EOS 1000D, at 29k, is just a bit more expensive than the d40x but it’s loaded with a lot more features.

The 1000D is smaller and lighter than the 450D but not by much. It’s still a bit bigger than the d40 and the d40x, which is a good thing. I always thought that the d40 and the d40x are so small that they almost look like prosumer cameras

One of the main selling points of the camera is its liveview feature which canon is introducing in all of its new cameras. If you’re used to point and shoot cameras and you’ve never handled a DSLR before, you might be surprised to know that with most DSLRs you can’t use the LCD to compose your shots. You’d have to look at the viewfinder to see what you’re actually shooting. With liveview, you can use your DSLR like you use your point and shoot camera.

Like the 450D, the kit lens of the 1000D also comes with image stabilization. Image stabilization minimizes blurring due to handshake. The 1000D also has automatic sensor cleaning like the 450D and the 450D

Here’s a quick comparison of the 450D, 400D, 1000D. D40x, D40

The 1000D has better features than both nikons. The 1000D is also a newer model. Both nikons are already quite old. Their replacements are probably due to come out soon. If you're budget is really limited then you might want to go for the d40. but the d40x and the 1000D are almost at the same price range. If you're starting from scratch, there's no reason to go for the older and less capable d40x over the 1000D

My photoshoot with Myca

This entry is truncated. Click on "readmore" below to read the rest of the entry

It’s been a while since I last updated this blog. Amazingly I still get 100-200 hits a day. I actually have 7 almost finished articles waiting to be published. I just lack the attention span to actually finish them…

While I finish those articles, let me first share with you some pics from my recent photoshoot with the lovely “Myca”

This is my 1st studio shoot and my first time to work with a model. Modesty be damned, I’d have to say I’m extremely pleased with the results, especially for the first set.

For the first set of pics, I aimed for a more artistic look. Very little post processing was done save for some minor tweaks in brightness and contrast. You can view the rest of the pics from this set here

2nd set: Multiple light sources and a white background. You can view the rest of the pics from this set here

3rd set: We tried to go for a men’s-magazine-ish look. I’m not sure if I’m ecstatic about the lighting, the two toned background and the round thing behind the couch but the model looks great in these pics so I decided to publish them anyway.

Myca will be featured in slitzmag's september issue so watch out for that

Comments are moderated. Only compliments using superlative adjectives towards the model and the photographer will be approved =)
